A Look Ahead: 2023 U.S. Privacy Laws
The presenters will review laws coming into force in 2023 including the use of artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) in the employment context in New York and Illinois; updates to California’s privacy law; and the privacy laws in Virginia and Colorado.
Amanda Gratchner is Corporate Counsel Sr. – Privacy, at Nordstrom, a U.S. based retailer where she advises on data privacy matters across the entire organization (commercial transactions, marketing, HR, compliance, product, etc.). Prior to joining Nordstrom, Amanda was a principal at the Portland law firm, IdeaLegal, where her practice focused on advising businesses of all size on data privacy compliance and commercial contract matters. Before that, she served as Global Privacy Officer and Senior Counsel at NAVEX Global (previously EthicsPoint), a governance, risk, and compliance software company. Amanda has been practicing in data privacy since 2004 and is a frequent speaker on issues related to data privacy compliance, the impact of privacy laws on businesses, and privacy by design. She is Co-Chair of the Portland, Oregon chapter of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and holds both CIPP/US and CIPP/E certifications from the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
Xavier Clark is Senior Corporate Counsel at Lattice, a people management SaaS platform, where he focuses on data privacy, commercial transactions, and corporate governance. Xavier advises internal teams, including commercial, marketing, product, corporate and leadership teams on legal and regulatory matters, such as identifying and driving resolution of considerations related to compliance with data privacy and security laws and frameworks. He works with stakeholders across the organization as a resource to improve understanding of compliance obligations related to proper handling and use of data in day-to-day business operations, and to develop and manage data privacy processes and practices in an evolving environment. Xavier holds CIPP/US and CIPP/E certifications from the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
