CLE: Building a Trade Compliance Program

October 26, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Technology Law Section Virtual Lunch and Learn
Rescheduled to Thursday, October 26, 2023
12:00 PM – 1:00 PM

Building a Trade Compliance Program:

Companies are increasingly facing compliance risks arising from cross-border transactions, including provision of SaaS to non-U.S. customers, sales of software licenses, use of foreign resellers, and reliance on offshore developers. These risks can arise in non-obvious and even counter-intuitive ways, and the financial and other costs of enforcement actions and penalties can be staggering. This session will cover how to build a compliance program that enables a company to prevent, detect and deter violations of these international laws, including economic sanctions, export controls, antiboycott laws, and the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. We’ll cover best practices for structuring your compliance program as well as common pitfalls.
