Algorithms, Terrorism, and the Future of CDA § 230
This CLE seminar will focus on the history and legal protections of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act and how two Supreme Court cases, Gonzalez v. Google and Twitter v. Taamneh, could impact it. Attorneys will discuss the potential implications of these cases for online speech and content moderation.
Speakers:
Shiwanni Johnson is an associate attorney at Crew Janci LLP, a Portland-based law firm representing victims of sexual abuse and other crimes nationwide. Her practice focuses on online sex abuse. Shiwanni is the 2023 Chair-Elect and Treasurer of the Technology Law Section. She was the 2022 Young Privacy Professional of Portland Chapter of the International Association of Privacy Professionals. Shiwanni is barred in Oregon and is currently studying for admission to the Hawaii State Bar.
Stuart Leijon is an associate at Chernoff Vilhauer LLP, a boutique technology firm, where his practice focuses on litigation, intellectual property, and privacy law. He is admitted to practice in Oregon and Washington State and the Federal District of Oregon. Stuart volunteers with the Federal Bar Association as an Intellectual Property Chair for the Federal Litigation Section and with the Portland Art Museum as a member of the Contemporary Art Council Board of Directors. Stuart is the author of Data, People, and Property, in which he advocates the modernization of privacy law by granting limited property rights in personal data to consumers. Stuart is currently studying to receive his certification as an Information Privacy Professional from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), of which he is also a member.
