DESCRIPTION:Looking through the Privacy Crystal Ball: A Retrospective and Predictions from the Oregon Department of Justice \nWith five new comprehensive state privacy laws going into effect in 2023\, what does this mean for Oregon practitioners and businesses? Kristen Hilton will provide an update on the Oregon Attorney General’s recent enforcement actions in the privacy and data security realm and Kimberly McCullough will clue us in on the latest progress towards a comprehensive privacy bill in Oregon. \n  \nSpeakers: \nKimberly McCullough is the legislative director for the Oregon Department of Justice. Kimberly began her legal career in private practice at Davis Wright Tremaine. She then served as the Policy Director at the ACLU of Oregon\, where she worked to advance the ACLU’s civil rights and liberties policies before the state legislature and various Oregon municipalities\, participated in ballot measure campaigns\, and made extensive media appearances. Most recently\, she served as the legislative director of the Oregon Office of Public Defense Services. Kimberly earned a B.A.\, with honors\, in English and Creative Writing\, from the University of Washington\, and a J.D.\, cum laude\, with a Civil Rights Emphasis\, from Lewis & Clark Law School. \nDuring her time with both the ACLU of Oregon and the Oregon Department of Justice\, Kimberly has worked on a broad range of legislation related to consumer privacy and restrictions on government surveillance\, including a prohibition of the unwarranted use of digital forensics devices by law enforcement\, numerous limitations on the disclosure of sensitive data by government entities (e.g.\, health information\, medical prescriptions\, immigration status\, etc.)\, Oregon’s Fiduciary Access to Digital Assets Act\, consumer protections related to privacy policies and the Internet of Things\, student data privacy\, contact tracing\, and more. \n  \nKristen Hilton is a Senior Assistant Attorney General in the Consumer Protection Section of the Oregon Department of Justice\, which enforces Oregon’s Unlawful Trade Practices Act. In that role\, Kristen handles data breach and privacy related matters impacting Oregonians and she leads investigations into potential violations of the Oregon Consumer Information Protection Act. \nBefore joining the DOJ in 2020\, Kristen spent over 10 years in private practice\, first as an associate at two large law firms in Los Angeles and most recently as a Partner at the Portland firm of Sussman Shank LLP.
