SUMMARY:Demystifying Blockchain and Smart Contracts
DESCRIPTION:Presentation Summary: \nBlockchain technologies and related applications\, including smart contracts\, are increasingly being viewed as a way for a wide variety of industries to enhance operational efficiencies and cut costs. However\, smart contract applications are still in their relatively early stages of development\, resulting in a significant amount of confusion regarding what smart contracts actually are\, what role they may play in blockchain ecosystems\, and what standards (both legal or technical) exist\, if any\, to guide their implementations.  This presentation will seek to discuss what blockchains and smart contracts are\, how smart contracts fit into the blockchain context\, and some actual or potential use cases for smart contracts as blockchain applications. \n\nProfessional Biography: \nKennedy Luvai is a shareholder at Parsons Behle & Latimer where he is a member of the firm’s technology\, cybersecurity & privacy\, and blockchain & digital currency groups.  Drawing on a broad technical background\, including a stint as a software developer\, Mr. Luvai advises and counsels clients on innovation strategy and protection.  Mr. Luvai also provides strategic legal and regulatory counsel to assist his emerging blockchain technology clients to grow and thrive. Additionally\, Mr. Luvai counsels\, advises\, and assists large enterprise clients on a broad range of legal and regulatory matters relating to data privacy and cybersecurity\, including the development of policies and procedures pertaining to information security and privacy. Mr. Luvai is a thought leader on a range of blockchain-related topics\, and has written and presented on such topics to a variety of audiences.  Currently based at the heart of Utah’s “Silicon Slopes\,” Mr. Luvai is licensed to practice in Utah\, Oregon\, Washington\, and Idaho as well as before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. \n\nWhen: Wednesday June 20\, 2018 12:00 – 1:00 pm \n\nWhere: Kell’s Irish Restaurant & Pub\, 112 SW 2nd Ave.\, Portland\, OR 97204 (503) 227-4057 \n\nCost: \n$22 for Technology Law members; \n$27 for other bar members and non-lawyers; \n$18 for students. \nThis cost includes lunch. \nMCLE Credit: The Technology Law Section will apply for one (1) general CLE credit \n\nPlease bring your check to the event\, payable to “Oregon State Bar.” \n\nIf you have any questions\, please contact Alex Wall at alex@wallatlaw.com
