SUMMARY:CLE: Building a Trade Compliance Program
DESCRIPTION:Technology Law Section Virtual Lunch and Learn\nRescheduled to Thursday\, October 26\, 2023\n12:00 PM – 1:00 PM\n  \nBuilding a Trade Compliance Program: \nCompanies are increasingly facing compliance risks arising from cross-border transactions\, including provision of SaaS to non-U.S. customers\, sales of software licenses\, use of foreign resellers\, and reliance on offshore developers. These risks can arise in non-obvious and even counter-intuitive ways\, and the financial and other costs of enforcement actions and penalties can be staggering. This session will cover how to build a compliance program that enables a company to prevent\, detect and deter violations of these international laws\, including economic sanctions\, export controls\, antiboycott laws\, and the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. We’ll cover best practices for structuring your compliance program as well as common pitfalls. \n  \nSpeaker Bio \nLuci Hague is a partner in Kirkland & Ellis LLP’s International Trade and National Security Practice Group in the Washington\, D.C.\, office. Luci advises companies and investors on complex cross-border transactional and advisory matters involving U.S. national security\, with a focus on OFAC sanctions matters\, U.S. export controls\, and CFIUS reviews. Luci has helped hundreds of U.S. and non-U.S. companies of all sizes build and enhance their trade compliance programs. \n  \nWhen: Thursday\, October 26\, 2023\, 12:00 PM -1:00 PM. \n  \nWhere: Zoom \n  \nCost: \n$10 for Technology Law section members; \n$15 for other bar members and non-lawyers; \n$10 for students (enter code STLC23LS during checkout) \n  \nMCLE Credit: The Tech Law Section will apply for 1 General CLE credit. \n  \nClick here to register.
