Ethics and Legal Project Management

While lawyers typically concern ourselves with managing "matters" or "cases," those are just fancy words for what the rest of industry calls a "project." Unfortunately, for most lawyers there is a universe of proven project management tools that we fail to utilize because of mis-matched nomenclature. In this talk, John Grant will discuss why the "front five" rules of ethics don't just allow for the use of project management methodologies, they demand it. He will then teach the fundamentals of both traditional and Agile project management, discuss how they relate to our ethical obligations, and leave you with concrete steps to implement them in your office for a more agile and ethical practice.

John E. Grant is the founder of the Agile Attorney Network, a membership group of legal professionals who harness the tools of modern entrepreneurship to build more profitable, scalable, and sustainable practices. A former in-house counsel and IP lawyer, in addition to managing the network he conducts facilitated strategy and operations workshops for law firms and legal teams. John co-chaired the Oregon Bar's Futures Task Force and is on its Board of Governors, serves on the board of The Commons Law Center (a nonprofit legal incubator program), and is a 2018 FastCase 50 Honoree.
