CLE: Cultural Competency: Working with International Clients

CLE: Cultural Competency: Working with International Clients

The last decade has seen an emergence of tech hubs across the globe, including in China, Japan, Korea, India, Singapore, and Israel—to only name a few. Whether your international clients are tech giants or solo inventors, increasing your cross-cultural competence will help you and your clients build stronger relationships, communicate more effectively, and work together to achieve your clients’ objectives. This 1-hour CLE will address common challenges when working with international clients, such as how to navigate language barriers and cultural differences.

Jia J. Feng, is an intellectual property and business attorney at Protea Legal Co. Her practice includes patent and trademark prosecution, contract drafting and negotiation, and commercial litigation in the state courts of Oregon, the District Court for the District of Oregon, and before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). Jia regularly works with international clients, non-native English speakers, first-generation Americans, and members of other diverse groups. To ensure the cross-cultural competence of her own law practice, Jia often draws from her personal experiences as a 1.75-generation Asian American and member of the LGBTQ+ community.
